Programs

The streets are no place for children.  With after school programs being removed at an alarmingly fast rate, sometimes going directly home is not an option.  With our Kids Safe Space program, children can have a space where they can be safe.  A safe and welcoming place where they can complete their homework, participate in art activities, or intern with one of our ongoing theater productions.  We have an after school tutoring program to help with homework.  

Single parents may need a place where they can leave their child for the short amount of time it may take for a job interview.  NOT A FREE REGULAR DAYCARE.  However, for a few hours every now and then, a child can have a place where they can engage in homework and have fun too.  

Times are getting tough.  Each day seems harder and harder.  Some struggles are fought and won, while others are lost to addiction.  From AA  to NA to OEA, many more people can use some help and might find it in a support group.  While most groups are losing their space, because of rising rents and gentrification, we offer a space where groups can use and help others without having to worry about the rent or overhead.  THIS IS NOT A RECOVERY PROGRAM, but a place to find help and guidance to a supportive healing process. 

They are some of society’s most precious commodities, our senior citizens.  They were there for us when we were young and some were abandoned, with time.  For the folks, who do not have the money to be placed in a retirement home to the folks, who still have it in them, as well as, for those who are still young at heart, we provide a place for them to meet and produce their own creative projects.  A place where they can come, leave freely, and make new friends or socialize with old acquaintances.  There is no mandatory program they need to follow.  Whether it’s singing a few songs, playing some cards, or sharing their own stories with a younger generation.  Our senior citizens are valuable to our society and community.  They have the power to empower the younger generation, through telling family stories and imparting priceless wisdom.  These kids still got it!

Veterans went to serve our country.  Some went through experiences few could understand.  They risked their lives for our country and were away from their families for quite sometime.  They came home and were forgotten.  Some find it difficult to relate or adjust in their community.  Some veterans find it easier to speak with other veterans.  There are some experiences, including an approach of communicating, civilians cannot understand.  We offer a group that veterans can participate and relate by creating on their own terms.  A place to share their experiences with others, who understand.  Utilizing art to unite and come to terms with issues, only they can relate and express to each other.  Some powerful journeys and great healing can be accomplished through art. 

Many people come to Los Angeles, California to pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, real life gets in the way and the dreams of acting, directing, and writing are put aside and replaced by a full time job to pay the  bills.  Over priced theater rental rates, make it almost impossible to rehearse and perform.  We offer free space with an adaptable schedule so the artist can see their dreams come true.  There are rules and guidelines that require the production to use resources which benefit the community, such as, casting locals,  giving local merchants first opportunity at bids, etc.  This creates a catalyst for economic development in the community.  With this win-win scenario, the community benefits.    The artist's dream becomes a reality and  the community becomes a bright star for other performing artist within their community. 

Heritage from families and cultures are the foundation of a strong community.  Our heritage program reaches out to different traditions and lifestyles to offer members of the community free space to plan and host festivals celebrating everything from re-telling some legends to performances that educate and remind us of what we are and where we came from.  Authentic food, dance, and workshops with demonstrations will inspire some of the young to look at the old ways of their predecessors and embrace them to pass down to future generation.
